This week is NOT starting well. I slept badly last night (and no, Jenlev, before you ask, I *still* haven't remembered to get any Tension Tamer tea), woke up groggy, and hauled myself out of bed anyway because I knew that it was ice-storming last night and that I'd have to chip my car out so I needed to get moving. Took a shower and got dressed and everything. Went out the door -- slipped on the invisible black ice on my second step down from my porch, ended up flat on my back. Hit the rear of my left hip on the way down so hard that I had to lay there in pain for a while before I could stop crying. I think I hit my head, too.

When I finally made it back to my feet (very carefully; but the fact that I *could* make it back to my feet means my hip must not be broken or even cracked, just very deeply bruised), I stood there for a while, but honest to god -- the entire back driveway is nothing but old ice from last week with this new extra-slick coating of ice on it, and my car is sheathed in that new extra-slick and doubtlessly hard to chip off ice, and I couldn't even imagine getting OVER to my car, let alone doing all around it chipping at it. Which makes me an utter wimp, because clearly, my two neighbors managed to chip *their* cars out and *leave*. But the fall really good and freaked me right out.

I think I will be calling in "sick". :P *sniff*

Aw, honey! Glad you're mostly ok. You're also not the only one in the area to fall today, if it makes you feel any better. A friend over in Watertown fell and hurt his coccyx pretty badly, and also decided to stay home. I am not going outside.

You are wise. I can't believe the folks who *have* gone outside today. :P

Oh *ouch*. You poor, poor thing. I've put on a lot of weight recently (ugh) and I'm as clumsy as a walrus on land. Slipping on ice is a huge fear of mine and I bruise spectacularly.

At the house I had this stuff that helped melt ice/snow and I used it liberally on the steps. It really seemed to work.

It sounds like a really good idea for you to stay home today. Who knows what the idiots are out there on the road doing! Take some pain killers, maybe a hot bath, and go back to bed.

The landlord provided us with a bin full of icemelt stuff, and I just went out and liberally sprinkled it on my steps and on the parts of the back that I could reach without going much further. So we'll see how much that helps! At some point I'm really going to need to get *to* the car...

After that, you totally deserve to stay home. I prescribe curling up in bed with a big mug of tea and a laptop or a book. And a heating pad!

From: [identity profile] eregyrn.livejournal.com
I really ought to own a heating pad, but I don't. Ibuprofen is somewhat helping.

Hey! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I hope it's warm enough to thaw tomorrow. Apparently LI is warmer than we are right now.

What is *UP* with this "winter in December* crap, huh? (I just saw on the news that we may be geting serious snow on Thursday. The hell?)

OW! Oh man, you deserve a day off. Stay inside. It's not safe. The world has rejected your presence today so what can you do? You can't fight the whole world. Take a nap. That'll show 'em.

ow.

Date: 2007-12-10 07:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eregyrn.livejournal.com
I did, in fact, take a nap, and it was pretty good, except for the part where I dreamt that my boss came to my house, to wait out the icestorm with me, and we puttered around making tea, and she asked me why I hadn't put in her reserve reading list for next semester's courses yet. :P (My boss is actually a very nice person.)

I also feel guilty because I feel like everyone ELSE manages to get up and shake it off and get into work in much worse conditions than these. I feel badly for letting it make me scared.

*pets*

It took me about 20 minutes to chip my car free this morning, but the heavy precipitation had stopped here by last night, so it wasn't quite so awful this morning. (Not that it was in any way, shape or form "fun".)

It was the chipping the car out that really decided me. I couldn't imagine, after falling, trying to go and brace myself on all that slick ice to chip away at the coating on the car. But I feel very wimpy since my neighbors obviously did it. :P

The black ice was brutal this morning. The Lil General wiped out on the way to the car, but being 6 he just bounced back up to his feet. Then it took me 5 minutes to actually get any traction under my tires so I could move.

A good day to stay home. Feel better!

I was thinking about the surface of our driveway, yes. It never got plowed after last week, so it's heavy with the old ice and wheel ruts and everything. Not that it would matter, as even if it'd been cleared, it'd just be a sheet of ice again. And my neighbors apparently made it out without incident. :P

Oh, ow! I'm glad you're okay. I did something similar once, landed really hard, and it hurt like hell - bit of a shock, too, and that nagging worry that maybe you really have damaged something...

*hugs* I think that fully deserves a day off sick.

:) I hear you. But truly, all I have is a massive bruise ON MY ASS. And thus my left side hurts a bit. I don't think my PCP could do much for me.

I am not going to the gym tomorrow, though. Thursday, yes, possibly.

Oh, OW. I'm glad the bruise is all you got, but the OW still counts. Even though the people around here are really good about sanding/salting the sidewalk, right in front of our apartment was still pretty slippery this morning -- it was just still coming down and freezing, no way to get around that.

When you go out to buy the Yak Trax, buy yourself a hot pad, too. Or I'm coming over with mine.
