This will be sad news to many on my flist: Bob's Southern Bistro (i.e. Bob the Chef's) will be closing at the end of November, and then will be reopened by a new owner, with a complete makeover and a switch to "American cuisine", by which the new owner apparently means "pricey burgers". :P

Pardon me while I pitch a fit. Yes -- because what Boston (what any city, really) doesn't have enough of is PRICEY RESTAURANTS THAT SERVE THE SAME OLD DAMN 'AMERICAN' FOOD. And it's especially idiotic since you can't get much more truly "American" than soul-food. Feh.

On the bright side: apparently, they'll still be running their catering business. (Good news for me in my job; I've had them cater events for us before.)

Yeah, there are other soul-food places in Boston. I'm just particularly sad, because Bob's is located two blocks from [livejournal.com profile] my_tallest's place, which means it's ridiculously convenient as well as really, really good. Other places will require a special trip to get to them, and I just know our track record for actually getting out and going to places that require, you know, EFFORT and planning to get to.

We'll have to plan to go one more time before they close.

DAMMIT! I love Bob's jazz brunch, and I haven't been in a few years, and now I never will again! DAMMIT!

Well, I was thinking more of trying to hit them one more time for dinner...

But, perhaps we should all try to schedule a Jazz brunch outing *as well*? I've never been to their jazz brunch!

Only problem of course is that we have perhaps 2 or 3 Sundays left to do it -- this weekend the 11th; the 18th; or the 25th. Yet, I could swear I read something about this that said their last open day was going to be the 24th...

And the reason this is bad is... you gotta figure they'll be mobbed at those last jazz brunches. :P

I know! Seriously. I feel no need for more overpriced trendy burgers when New York and South End are RIGHT THERE.

Man, that sucks big dead momma bunnies. Those were the best wings I've had in a long, long time.

I'm glad SK and I got to go before it closed!

Yeah, that makes the recent outing especially serendipitous. I'm gonna miss a lot of things about them. (Especially their sides! The candied yams! And they had just wonderful mashed potatoes. Probably made with lard.)

A 28 year old from the Netherlands? He has NO IDEA of his market. His restaurant will close in a year.

Meanwhile, the Beehive is indeed doing really, really well... because it's the flavor of the year, in an area of town where restaurants don't last longer than three. We'll probably be able to get in after about six more months, and it will be gone in two more years.

So fucking sad.

It really sounds like if they were smart they would have kept Bob's, which has a steady clientele, and calved off the Beehive somehow. (Where is that?)

It's so annoying about the guy coming in who clearly does not know the neighborhood. I hope his place DOES crash and burn, just on general principles. Even though I would eventually like some other good place to get in there that we could go to.

Seriously NOOOOOOOOO.

That just blows. I just called my aunt to tell her and she's spreading the news (my family LOVES Bob's, we go there as a big group once or twice a year and it's always the best time). I'm only in Boston Thanksgiving week but damnit if I'm not going to eat there while I still have the chance.

Man, this just dropped my day down a notch.

:( Even worse -- I read somewhere more recently that their last day open will be the 24th of Nov. Looks like you're going to miss it. :( :( :( I feel your pain, dude!
