The official MGM site for both Stargates has a box for a poll in a prominent place on its front page. The current question is: "Favorite Atlantis Slash Pairings":
http://stargate.mgm.com/index.php
...
On the *official* MGM page. Okaaaaay.
The choices, btw are Sheppard/McKay, Teyla/Weir, and Ronon/McKay; no, I have absolutely no idea how they arrived at those three, although the first is pretty obvious. I don't usually visit this page, so I've no idea whether it's a different poll question each day, what past poll questions have been, if they've ever done a similar slash question for SG-1, who's in charge of coming up with the poll questions, etc.
Just... *really*, MGM? You want to know? Huh.

Date: 2007-06-16 03:09 am (UTC)(He's just so, SO pretty, plus, there's a combination in him of understated -- *cough* -- physical/martial competency, plus a laconic, dry sense of humor. Yup, that's all what tends to work with me. And unlike with Shep, the writers haven't given me conniptions with stuff they've done with him, so...)

Date: 2007-06-15 08:44 pm (UTC)I’ve only been there a couple of times. Now, I’ll have to check the poll for slash every day. Hmm.

Date: 2007-06-16 03:13 am (UTC)(Unless it's someone who was basically told: "slash is pairing up two members of the same sex; now, come up with slash pairings that cover the main team!" And the someone is then logically thinking, "okay, okay, same-sex... so who the heck do I put with Teyla? ah!" Because, yes, there aren't many choices in the poll, and they didn't exactly do any innovate non-main-team pairings; like McKay/Zelenka, or something.)
Now -- do you mean "huh!" in a "I would never have thought of that pairing" way, or "huh!" in a "I'm surprised *they* thought of it" way?

Date: 2007-06-16 03:26 am (UTC)I think maybe I would have expected McKay/Beckett just because I get the sense that that has a fairly large fandom following, but of course with Sunday airing recently in the US it would be a problem.

Date: 2007-06-16 03:22 am (UTC)But on the other hand, what I find interesting about this is the very matter of fact presentation of it (like, "what? it's a perfectly normal poll question!"), and the slight sense of sophistication shown by including a femmeslash pair. (Because most of the tittering/jokes seems to be directed towards m/m "gay" stuff.)
It sure is... weird. That's my reaction to it, mostly. "That's... kinda weird." I don't entirely have a "w00t!" feeling about it. Not without knowing more context.

Date: 2007-06-16 06:45 am (UTC)The word that keeps popping into my head whenever I think about this is 'disingenuous'. It keeps getting those ol' alarm bells ringing. I'm wary of tptb getting too involved in fandom - that's not their function - so I can't help that nagging feeling that there's more to this than meets the eye.
I will of course be delighted to be proved wrong :-)

Date: 2007-06-16 03:02 am (UTC)Though it would be hilarious, and believable, if it were an MGM employee having fun and no one involved with the production of the show has a clue what goes on with the website.

Date: 2007-06-16 03:19 am (UTC)I pointed out that if it was *me*, I would be *tempted* to do stuff like this, but I don't think I would completely assume that my bosses were never going to happen to look at the page or have it brought to their attention or whatever. It's awfully blatant, right there on the front page.
But who knows -- maybe it's an employee who likes to live dangerously! Or, maybe it does have approval at a higher level. Or something. I can't figure it out!
