(I cannot express how much of a bummer it is that the "whale" layout is boring ol' sperm whales, and not orcas... yes, I am totally scheming in my mind how I could transform it into orcas... in the meantime, SQUID!!! will do nicely...)


(ETA: Also... I have just had someone add me as a friend whose LJ information is in Cyrillic and who lists his/her location as Minsk, Belarus. I am thinking that is... a mistake.)

Probably one of the random frienders that happen from time to time. There's about three that have hit me up. One I have to ask to take off their flist (their entries consist of snippets of public posts from all their flist), the other two do it in a day or two.

Actually, I am *pretty sure* that the reason the person friended me is that I have the fantasygoat LJ friended. Fantasygoat posts funny pictures from time to time. This new person's LJ, which was only created on Sunday, posts "funny" pictures too, primarily. So I wonder if the person was raiding Fantasygoat's flist, basically.

There's a chinese rest. about an hour from here on the coast that serves a Salt and Pepper Squid that's to die for. It's deep fried heaven I'm telling you.

Sadly, the place that does the best s&p squid around here is [a] kind of a haul, and [b] also not someplace I would go by myself, necessarily. And it's just not the same when it's take-out! It had to be FRESH. *sigh* This reminds me that I haven't been to that place in ages, because we used to have friends who lived quite near it, but now nobody we know does, and it's out of the way for where our current focii of socialization are. *is sad*

Well, it might not be this, but there's also a thing going on where people use a 'friending program'. It automatically friends everyone who updates during a certain time, and if you don't friend them back, they automatically defriend you after a few hours or so. It's happened to me numerous times, and it's always by a journal in Cyrillic. Just do nothing and they'll likely disappear shortly.

I wish LJ could block those programs somehow though.

Yeah, I wonder if that's what it was? The thing is, this was a very new LJ (created on Sunday), that described itself as being for posting "funny" pictures. (By which this guy mostly meant "raunchy".) I have friended an LJ called Fantasygoat which is sort of for the same thing. I'm honestly wondering whether this guy just went and poached all the people who had Fantasygoat friended (on the thinking, "if they like that LJ, they'll like mine!").

Anyway, I left him a comment saying "please defriend me", and as of this morning, he did. So, all's well that ends well, I guess.

(Got your voicemail.) As I was saying above, I had a feeling that this might be a guy who was poaching on the flist of another LJ I have friended. I just went to his LJ and left a "I think you friended me by mistake, please remove me" note -- and this morning, he's gone. So, that's good! (If that hadn't worked, I would have moved to the banning step -- although I'm confused by banning, I can't really tell what good that does.)

it stops the person from being able to comment in your journal. and by clicking on the "spam" box i think it stops any emails through the LJ address arriving from the person as well.

Hey, squid are very cool. Granted not as cool as orca whales. Your site has an 'under the sea' feel. I like it.

I live in Seattle and my family is from the northern islands. The home of the orca and giant squid. The orca are such beautiful creatures. Is there a special reason you chose that name?

Hmm. I've been deeply into orca for so long that I can't really say any more exactly when that clicked for me, or why. I go back and back in my memory and I can remember really early examples of fascination with orca (like, I'm talking 7 years old), but not what triggered it. But it's always stuck with me.

So I chose "orca" for my email address name pretty early, too, and if I possibly could, stuck with that. (Advantages: it's short, it's memorable, it's easy to spell; and by and large, it doesn't seem as twee as trying to pick a handle based on foxes would be -- I like foxes a lot, too, but they're definitely a newer interest than orcas -- only 20 or so years versus 30+ years.) And, anyway, using it for email addresses then led me to tend to use it as a handle for messageboards or forums and stuff like that, too.

When I finally signed up for LJ, someone was already using just "orca", so I had to figure out a variation for it -- and this is just what sounded good.

The irony of course is that I am *not* from, or living in, a part of the world that has a *lot* of orca. Not like the NW. I haven't gotten to travel extensively in the NW, either, although it's definitely one of my ambitions.
