AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!

RDA/Jack's coming back for the 200th episode!

(Which will apparently be a sort of sequel to the 100th, "Wormhole X-Treme!" -- and to be honest, while that was not my favorite all-time humor ep when it aired, it has grown on me since then, and frankly at this point, I'm willing to go with whatever -- up to and including Damian Kindler's stupid jokes, and you KNOW what a concession that is from me -- so long as *they* all are having fun with it.)

And that's not all! AAAAAHHH!

First: that's going to be more than just a little cameo. w00t!

Second: he'll be guesting in some *other* S10 eps!!! ( [sarcasm]Gosh, does that mean we might actually find out what Jack is DOING?[/sarcasm].)

Third: he'll be guesting on *SGA*!!!!! (This excites me a good bit, simply because, I totally wasn't expecting it.)

Naturally, you may take as read all possible caveats and the usual fannish fretting. (Oh please, writers, don't screw it up and make me wish we'd been better off not knowing, etc.) Right now, I'm in the Happy Place. Determinedly so.

As soon as I saw your "Squeee", I was like "Man, they must have gotten RDA back for something to make her that happy." :p

When you think about it, limited time or not, there still hasn't been a season he hasn't been in, so I'm glad S10 won't be the first.

And I hope he's missed it enough to come back properly, I really do.

Yeah, I could be on board for that too.

I like BB (lots and lots and lots) but I do miss Jack.

Oh, now I'm afraid we won't. They'll just keep cutting away to commercial just when it was going to be revealed. Because the Stargate writers? They would think that was funny.

Okay, that's not likely if he's coming for more than one episode and going to Atlantis. They'd have to explain it somehow. But still.

Yeah, me too. And then I figured that if that's who it is, there's no use trying to stay spoiler free for the next five months. So I clicked!

Oh, they totally would and it's cracking me up just thinking about it. So now that you've said this, I can laugh and laugh and laugh when it does happen!

Crossing fingers, hoping for Vividcon Weekend Glee Timing.

Now I'm trying to think of what other casting spoiler could have caused a like reaction. Hmm....

"Oded Fehr to become recurring regular, new SG team-leader on SG1..."

Wordity-word.

Yeah, that's covered up under "the usual caveats"... I'm not unaware of the potential for this to sort of backfire. As someone else remarked in janedavitt's thread, I think it was Katie: they'd left Jack in an okay place, even if they keep failing to say what that place IS. There's always that danger that the additional information about Jack that we get out of this is stuff that we'd rather hadn't been put into canon.

And then, as you say... there's the issue of, "Which Jack is going to be showing up?"

Here is something that occured to me: IIRC, Jack in the eps that involve Martin is a reasonably smart, competent Jack. (Reasonably.) Because it's *Martin's* role to be the goofball. Particularly in WXT, Jack's role is as, more or less, the straight-man. He's there to be the real, competent, actual hero (within the bounds of the ep), in contrast to Martin and his over-the-top fictional colonel. Overall, Jack's role isn't to be the comic relief, since there's already somebody filling that role.

I could hope that 200 takes the same tack. Although it already sounds like it's gonna be *really* loose, really out-there. (Marionettes???) So I'm braced.

As for the other guest appearences and the SGA gig... oh, god only knows. Because then we'll be at the mercy not only of which RDA/Jack decided to show up, but also, who writes the episode...

*nods* It's kinder on your nerves to just *know*. I was, honest to god, trying to be not entirely obvious about it. (As I said to telepresence: there are, um, maybe some other casting spoilers that could make me squee! Truly!) But I'm also guessing that there's going to be folks who word their cut-tags in such a way that it's impossible to avoid figuring it out. (In truth, when I saw Jane post about it, I did believe for a second that the Casting Spoiler might turn out to be someone else; she had a better poker-face than me.)

Theoretical [livejournal.com profile] orca_girl squee? Easy.

"Yeah, after touching on UN pressure on the SG program all these seasons, we're finally going to have some foriegn teams operating regularly on base on a rotating basis. There's gonna be a Japanese team lead by a General Shigeru, and a British team led by a Colonel Sharpe, in addition to the Russian and Chinese teams we've already discussed."

I was totally thinking the exact same thing. That they'll just be like, "Oh, at this point, continuing not to say will be funny!"

And then we descend on them with the torches and the pitchforks and the rake-y things.

They'll show him getting off the elevator with Sam, starightening his hair or buttoning his shirt or something doofy like that.

Or... yes! Totally like that.

*snerk*

Ooooh, and you know what would rock? They could get Oded Fehr to do the Russian team-leader! Because he could be from some former Soviet possession, like Kazakhstan or Azerbaijan. *nods*

Also, Col. Dixon will be returning to a recurring role...

I mean, it's better that you squeed! That way I know about this earlier and can have tons of time being joyful and reading cut tags. Even if no one on the internet posts about it (which totally isn't going to happen) Sci-Fi will probably advertise the hell out of it in an unavoidable way! So now I have months of fun ahead of me!

Heh, my first subject line was 'Yes!!!!!' and I realised I just couldn't do that; it was incredibly hard phrasing it calmly and telling people what it was about without giving it away.

Although I don't really see it as a spoiler in the sense of revealing that someone dies, or a major plot twist; a character who is still alive and mentioned on the show now and then, appearing in an episode, is a lower-level spoiler. It's not like you can extrapolate plot from it.

But I do appreciate totally that some people want to be 100% spoiler-free and I still remember Giles returning in the Sg Buffy finale and the immediate fade to commercials and my husband and I leaping up and shrieking 'Giles is back! Yes! Yes!' so, heh, maybe it IS a proper spoiler :-)

OMG. That thought got me so excited that I went and calculated it. "200" will be episode six. The past two years, with July premiere dates, episode six has been the second or third Friday in August. (Last VVC's ep was episode 6.) So! It could be! We could get lucky! That would be freakin' awesome.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] orca_girl, I'm right there with you. SQUEE.

I honestly never realised quite what a huge loss Jack would be when Rick retired from Stargate. The resulting season has been a non event for me :( It'll be wonderful to see him back, although I'm a little concerned that it will highlight what we've been missing even more...

Squeeing right along with y'all, but a little muted. Due to RL, I'm not in a very good frame of mind right now.

Now, if they did they same thing with Vala in the elevator, I would laugh and laugh.
