SQUEEEEE!!!!
Jun. 16th, 2005 09:40 pmRemembering my icon,
droneish just alerted me to this, which is apparently an entry from this year's Kinetic Sculpture Race, from Arcata to Ferndale, CA. There are no photos on this site, by the way, that are not truly delightful. But this is the SQUEE one (click for a larger image):

Oh my gosh, that just makes my day. :D Thank you,
droneish!!!
(The fact that the crew are wearing little custom orca hats just absolutely makes it even more perfect.)

Date: 2005-06-17 07:45 am (UTC)It's really sad, but when searching for other things, I came across some photos online of a white-water touring company, apparently in the UK (Wales, I think) (who knew they had whitewater in Wales?), that will rent you kayaks to go down this river... and for some reason (maybe the place is called Orca Tours or something, I don't recall), these kayaks are painted like orcas.
I WANT ONE SO BAD.
Unfortunately (this is the sad part), it appears that the orca-painted kayaks were custom made for this company, not something you can buy elsewhere on the internet.
Curses!

Date: 2005-06-16 08:20 pm (UTC)they have a kinetic sculpture race here every year and during the pre-race parade, the teams hand out souvenirs to the crowd with the team logo on it - keychains, bookmarks, postcards etc.

Date: 2005-06-16 08:47 pm (UTC)Just now I did try to find a way to contact Rob Hitchcock - the main auteur of the Whale of a Time sculpture - but found no website or email address. I know they bribed the official timer with a spare hat and other race-workers were trying to steal it (badly), so I don't think there were a lot to go around.
