Teeny Little Kitty Brains...

I would say something sweeping and generic about cats and their walnut-sized brains, but rather than impugn the cats of others, I'll just impugn the brains of my OWN cat, which is much safer.

Recipe for Winter Fun with Cats:

* snow falls

* cat cries at door to be taken out

* put harness on cat

* take cat out into snow

* cat uses facial expression to convey opinion of snow

* let cat back inside

* wait approx. one week.

* snow falls

* cat cries at door to be taken out

* put harness on cat

* take cat out

* cat expresses with body language: "what is all this frozen white shit on the ground?"

* "not what I wanted!"

* let cat back inside

* wait one week

* snow falls

* cat cries at door to be taken out

* put harness on cat

* take cat out into snow

* cat finds that snow is up to chest

* "not what I wanted! let me back in!"

Seriously, people! We're getting snowstorms EVERY week. Emily cries at the door all the time to be let out again, only to get out there and find that there's STILL frozen white shit all over the place, and it's cold, and... no. She's back at the door again, fastidiously standing on the sill, wanting back inside.

I guess don't REALLY expect her to learn. She's a CAT. I just would think she'd remember "it sucks out there" from one week to the next.

Yesterday we got 8", and then overnight we got about 4" more. Today when I went out to shovel out the car (AGAIN!), I left her inside.

- fantastically leaning ramparts of snow on porch railings:

- snow piles (from plow) taller than the Little Car:

- impressive oak tree. I can see this tree through the window of my bathroom; it is often very pretty in the early morning light when it's covered with snow, but unfortunately I never quite remember to get a picture of that:

- cat waits inside:
