"The New Adventures of Old Skywalker: As fan fiction gains respect, opportunities expand for the genre's writers"

The title is a bit of a cheat, frankly -- SW fanfic isn't really discussed in any depth; more time is spent discussing Dr. Who fanfic, actually. But the article is overall very positive -- though, it focuses on the idea of fanfic as a training ground for pro writers, basically. I give it points for acknowledging that not everyone who writes fanfic wants to turn pro, but the article is definitely about the increasing numbers of fanfic writers who do so, and what benefits they consider writing fanfic to have had for them.

Yeah, not bad; although I snickered at the line about how NN used to write fanfiction, back in her teens. ::grins::

Yes, I raised my eyebrows when I saw that! But I wasn't sure where it might have originated, and besides, I thought it was nice that they made a point of saying that Doyle, for example, still writes fanfic from time to time. Thus, the point of "it's not necessarily a one way street to profic" had at least been made. (I admit -- I don't think I've ever heard of Doyle; but that's neither here nor there.)

Doyle and MacDonald have a relatively entertaining series of space operas, very Star-Wars-ish, called the Mageworlds series. They're not Great Art, but they are competent and relatively fun.

Thank you for the link! *hugs*

It may be traumtic-dead-head-disorder that makes me nervous about fanfic being too much in the public eye. Meep. ;)

Yes,
i finally made it to your journal to see the NZ pictures and tale, long-g-g after the rest of humanity has seen it I fear.
I am reading it a little at a time and will email thoughts or post them. On my way to the front of the travelogue, I snagged on Jake the intrepid farm cat and was appalled and dismayed by his misadventure! I hope that you will keep us up to date on his recovery and quality of life. He certainly is a gorgeous cat in the picture.
Anyhow, it is appallingly late, I unfortunatly am up because my arthritis wont let me sleep, and I have class in the morning. So, more soon, as I continue to explore NZ,courtesy of your account of your trip. ( which I am in no way going to be able to pull off visiting until I have had both hips replaced--88 stairs up, mountain rds, no trails, wash outs!!! My hip is KILLING me just thinking about it! So thanks--I consider this sort of a virtual vacation until someday!*Grin!*)
Probably the best place to currently reach me still remains my email.
Love and blessings,
Hannah
