I didn't do much but huddle for Valentine's Day (for the usual reasons, but also because there was a giant storm socking the Boston area that day) -- but I did this, for a group I'm in. So in the usual way -- making myself actually share this is really hard. And by this time, I could enumerate ALL its many flaws for you! Ah well. But I won't. (Keep clicking for larger versions.)

The nice thing here is: the chick in the middle is the kick-ass chief of the tribe. (Or, was.) And she's got TWO. :) Go, her.

You are really incredibly good! I can't even do good stick figures, so seriously, I am in awe.

And do let me know when the package arrives. I would think it would be Tuesday, what with the holiday and everything, but...

That is lovely! The blue highlighting/coloring makes it look extra magical. Sweeeet.

Thanks. :)

I'll definitely let you know when it arrives -- I probably won't know until Wed., though (if I'm lucky). I have jury duty on Tuesday. :( I'm really praying that it'll only be the one day. (I got stuck on a frustrating jury the last time I did this. I don't want to do that again.)

Thank you!

Believe it or not, the blue coloring is sort of a mistake. ;-) The sketch/underdrawing is done in non-photo-blue pencil. I use that because then, I can do the finishing (ink or pencil, in this case) right over it, and then scan it in b&w or grayscale, and it doesn't pick up the underdrawing. Except this time I forgot my scanner was set to color, so it picked it up. But when I realized it, I decided I liked it and just left it. :) Serendipitous.

Serendipity is such a huge part of creating anything, I think, even for the most masterly creators (the kind of people I'm not, who can set out to achieve a specific goal and actually make it happen *g*). I'm really glad it turned out that way! Of course, it would be beautiful without the blue too -- I don't want you to think that's all that made it for me. But I love the effect with it.

Thanks. :) I think most of the artists I know tend to feel that even when they set out to achieve a specific goal, and they *mostly* make it happen, there's always some percentage of the piece that either didn't get all the way there, didn't come out as intended, or couldn't even have been anticipated. Sometimes you're lucky and it works nonetheless. ;)

(In the end I liked the blue because I thought it gave it a bit of depth, if that makes sense. I had always wanted it to be monochrome, but had originally wanted to do something that suggested "bathed in moonlight". Which... yeah, maybe, but to be really successful at that, I think the shadows would have to be starker. *shrug*)

Thank you. :)

I think the being hard on myself part just comes with the territory of being an artist. Most artists I know of are like that. Not long after it's finished, they look at a piece and all they can see is a Teeming Flaw Colony.

Being shy is different. That's the "oh god, I'll post this and then everyone will KNOW how much I actually SUCK but they'll be too nice to SAY it" part of the brain, and I don't know what to do about that. I mean, I was no less neurotic posting fic.

*hug*

Thanks, dude. Pointy-earned people lend themselves to just about anything, huh? I figured you especially would enjoy the "she's got TWO" part. ;-)

All the texturing is there to distract everyone from the parts that didn't come out right.

that sounds like how i feel when i look at something i've written and see the myriad-breeding-typos. frelling typos.

as for the shy part, i wish i had something useful to say that would make that less so. i struggle with that as well, even posting a photo that i like i still have that oops feeling. gah, some days it's hard to be human. maybe the biggest thing is to be kind to yourself, and treat yourself with the same generosity of spirit you offer to others. :::big hugs:::

and lets chat soon. i'm off to sleep having just watched 'talion' and am having so many stargate thinky thoughts that my brain is wobbly.
