So, several people spoke up and asked how come I didn't post any pictures of the Small Emergency Back-up Cat when I was posting all the cute pics of Emily, and the real answer to that was that there didn't happen to be any pics of her in that batch. But I rectified that over the weekend, so now I bring you Morgan:

I can't really say with a straight face that Morgan is less interactive than Emily. Any one who has met Morgan in person would just laugh knowingly. Morgan has an "ON" switch like you cannot believe, which earned her the nickname "affection crackhead" soon after I got her. But most of the time, until you hit the button, she remains in the "OFF" position, and in that position, she's mostly kind of vegetative. Emily tends to hang out with me *all the time*, while Morgan stays off in her favorite places, which is mostly either on my bed or in the closet or in the mudroom.

I think you can kind of see the slightly maniacal glint that Morgan has. You can see it in her eyes.

This is Morgan in her favorite place, in the sunbeam in the mudroom.

This picture proves that occasionally in my house, there is cat detente.

See, the thing is that Morgan was horribly abused by all the other cats in the house where she used to live, which is why I took her in. She compensates for this by RULING my house. Or... to be accurate, she rules Emily. This is very funny, because although you can't tell from this pic, Emily is twice Morgan's size/weight. Morgan is probably 3 or 4 years older. (Emily's... *does some quick math* about 5 now, so Morgan's probably 8 or 9.) But Emily is thoroughly bamboozled by Morgan. Morgan doesn't hurt Emily or anything, but she'll smack Emily when she wants to, and chase her. Emily does sometimes chase back.

The biggest result of this dynamic is that the bed is Morgan's now, and for a while Emily hardly dared to even get up there while Morgan was there. Emily has gotten better at this recently. It helped that I got this new comforter, which I gather doesn't have Morgan's scent ground into it, so Emily seems to be hoping to colonize it too. (Of course, this pic could have come about because Emily was already up there, and then Morgan got up, and Emily didn't wake up or decided for once to stay put.) This is a big step because previously, Emily was kind of afraid to get up there *in case* Morgan was already there, but now Emily has even been sleeping with me at night again, even if Morgan is on the bed too.

Ah, cat politics.
