LOTR coming back to the big screen...
May. 3rd, 2011 02:28 pmJust a note for folks who may not have seen this news yet: this June, in conjunction with the release of the Extended Edition LOTR DVDs on BluRay, there's going to be a modified "Trilogy Tuesday" event. Instead of showing them all on one day, several theater chains (including AMC and Regal) will be hosting three successive Tuesdays, showing the extended versions of FOTR, TTT and ROTK once each week, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28.
More detail, and links to AMC's site page for each of the showings, can be found here at TheOneRing.net's site. They've also posted a link to the official site about the event, where tickets can be ordered, here. (I think that ordering through that link may help TORn earn something.)
From what I understand, wide announcements about this haven't been made yet; possibly the announcements will come out as early as this Friday. The links above allow you to purchase tickets now, though. Anyone who remembers the Trilogy Tuesday experience will recall that it sold out pretty quickly in desirable locations. Ah yes, I remember well the 1-hour drive to the only theater where we could eventually get tickets for it. This time, since the showings start at 7pm, I imagine travel convenience will be more of an issue for folks.
If you're in the Boston area: I've already got tickets for myself and two others for Boston Common.

Date: 2011-05-04 01:32 am (UTC)If this was another one-day affair, I'd still do it. But at least this time, it's spread out over three successive showings. Easier on the body. ;-)
I'm not sure I've actually watched the films since... well, since Trilogy Tuesday, in fact. I OWN the EEs, and have watched some of the extras, but not a full viewing of the films. I've watched certain parts of ROTK's EE, but never the whole thing, I don't think.
So this comes along at a good time. :)

Date: 2011-05-04 01:52 am (UTC)I had JUST been thinking that it's been so long since I really sat down to watch the films, and I never did watch the EE of ROTK itself. As I said to the commenter below, some friends and I tried to coordinate a home marathon a few years ago and it didn't happen. I really like the idea of an organized event like this. There is just nothing better than watching movies -- especially THESE movies -- in a theater filled with other dedicated geeks who are there because they love it that much.
I just hope we can snag some seats that will result in minimal knee pain. ;-)

Date: 2011-05-04 02:20 pm (UTC)I can't remember exactly, only that by the time we got our tickets, all of the theaters close to us were sold out. So we wound up at some place that was like an hour's drive to the west -- maybe West Springfield? Something insane like that. I was doing the driving. Coming home after that day was painful, let me tell you. Esp. because one of us lived downtown (the other person I saw it with also lived in Waltham), so we had to drive all the way in to drop him off and then back out to home. I think we got home at like 1:30am, something like that. And if I remember correctly, I went to work the next day.
(I tried to look it up in my email archives, only to realize that that was before I even HAD a Gmail account. Wow.)
